Welcome to Boys and Beauty!

Ever feel as though beauty has passed you by? Ever feel like the boys don't notice your existence? My name is Rachel, and I know I did. But I learned that there is Someone who loves me, Someone who thinks I'm beautiful. His name is Jesus.

On this blog I'll post my thoughts on the issues of beauty and boys. Some of these thoughts have been learned by pain and tears while others have been passed down by those wiser than myself. I hope to hear your thoughts as well. God bless!

God's Daughter

Romans 8:17 says, “And since we are his [God’s] children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his sufferings.”

I am God’s heir. God’s princess. And so are you, if you have been adopted into God’s family. This week, I’ve been contemplating my royal position. It's both a super cool and scary thought.

It’s scary because I have many responsibilities with my position - responsibilities it’s easy to ignore. As princess' both you and I have to a responsibility to lead, guide, and stand up for what is right. But even though that's a bit intimidating, I find comfort that I always have God, my King and Father, to show me what to do. And he loves me no matter what. Cool, yes?

Father God challenged me this week to think more about my inner beauty than about my outer beauty. Because it is our inner beauty that that makes us truly beautiful. (I Samuel 16:7) To God we are His workmanship. He knit us together in our mothers' wombs. (Psalm 139:13-16). That really made me think.

My mom spends hours upon hours knitting blankets and other things. She pours her heart, her time, and her love into those works. She knits them perfectly. She knits them according to her plan and desire. It's startling to think that God made us the exact same way, isn't it? He poured His love into us and made us exactly how He wanted. Stitch by stitch, thread by thread. We are perfect and complete in His sight. He made us to reflect His glory, and so He made us beautiful.

The biggest thing that struck me is this: If I continue to be dissatisfied with the way I look, then I am dissatisfied with God. If I don't like the way I look, I am saying that God did not make me correctly... that He messed up. But who am I to say such a thing?

The devil is the father of lies, and he likes to sink his talons into me with those thoughts. I have to remember this: God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied with Him. If we listen to the devil's lies about our looks, then we will not shine God's glory onto the lives of others. And shining God's glory into the lives of others is our duty as princesses.

Always remember that if boys don't seem to notice you, it's not because you're not beautiful. You are God's hand-knit creation. You are perfect. Beautiful. Precious. Remember that fathers are protective, and as God is your Father, He is protective of you. If boys don't seem to notice you, that is because Father God is dulling their eyes, keeping them safe for their future and keeping you safe for your future. And when God decides you are ready, He will bring you the one He has been preparing for you.

So I challenge you. Smile at your siblings today. Compliment each one of them in a special way. Give your mom and dad a hug, tell them how much you love them and how special they are to you. God loves you. Let His love shine through you to your family, friends, and others you don't even know are watching. Let your inner beauty lift up the hearts and spirits of those around you.

Because to God you are His most precious, most beautiful daughter.
